Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has declared a state of emergency and ordered Georgia National Guard troops to aid in preparation and recovery efforts as Hurricane Debby moves through Florida towards the southeast part of the state.
Kemp signed an executive order Saturday declaring a state of emergency in preparation for what was then known as Tropical Depression 4. Monday, he signed an order for 2,000 Georgia National Guard troops to aid areas of the state expected to be impacted by the storm.
Hurricane Debby made landfall in Florida Monday and has since been downgraded to a Tropical Storm. It is expected to impact the area of Southeast Georgia including Brunswick, Savannah, Statesboro and Waycross.
The order for the Georgia National Guard troops will expire when the state of emergency related to Hurricane Debby expires.
