A Flowery Branch man was arrested Saturday on driving under the influence charges after a brief chase on Browns Bridge Road in Gainesville.

Hall County Sheriff’s Office officials said deputies saw Elvis Gutierrez Bello, 24 driving erratically at around 2:30 a.m. on Browns Bridge Road.

Bello allegedly passed deputies at a high speed and came to a stop at the traffic light at Pearl Nix Parkway.

“Once the light turned green, Bello accelerated and began driving recklessly, moving out of his lane and almost striking several vehicles,” sheriff’s officials said in an email to AccessWDUN.

The deputy pulled Bello over near Memorial Park Drive.

The HCSO H.E.A.T. Unit was called after the deputy reported smelling the odor of alcohol and spotting open containers in the vehicle.

Bello faces charges of DUI-alcohol/less safe, failure to maintain lane, open container violation, driving too fast for conditions, reckless driving, operating a vehicle with an expired tag, driving while license suspended, no proof of minimum insurance,  removing license plate in an attempt to conceal vehicle identity and fleeing or attempting to elude.

He was booked in the Hall County Jail on a bond of $15,300.
