The Forsyth County Government will be holding three public hearings over the next month as their upcoming budget projects millage rate changes that look to raise tax revenue amid rising property assessments.
A release Tuesday by the county government said the board of commissioners intends to maintain the county's maintenance and operations millage rate, while increasing the fire millage rate and decreasing the bond millage rate.
The flat maintenance and operations millage rate will raise tax revenue for the county by a projected 3.95 percent over the rollback rate. The expected increased revenue is due to rising property assessments, which county officials say grew the tax digest by just over 7 percent.
The millage rate will likely mean increased property taxes for county residents who saw increases in their property assessments.
The dates and times for the public hearings are listed below. All three will be held at the Forsyth County Administration Building on E. Main Street in Cumming.
- Thursday, July 18 at 5:00 p.m.
- Thursday, August 1 at 11:00 a.m.
- Thursday, August 1 at 6:00 p.m.
The board of commissioners vote on the new millage rates is scheduled for August 1 at 6:30 p.m., immediately after the last public hearing.
