The US Geological Survey says a 2.2 magnitude tremor occurred at 3:17 a.m. on Thursday morning, about 2.5 miles north of Buford. Three previous quakes have hit the same area in the last several weeks.

Research scientists from schools within UGA, Georgia Tech, and Georgia State have started to install a series of seismic sensors, with hope of gathering more data on just what exactly has been causing the recent earthquake activity.

No injuries have been reported from any of the recorded tremors over the past two weeks, but some residents in the area south of Lake Lanier have reported feeling vibrations from the tremors while in their homes.
