One person suffered non-life-threatening injuries Saturday morning when a domestic incident in Gwinnett County ended in an officer-involved shooting.

The Gwinnett County Police Department said the incident began just before 10:30 a.m. when dispatch received a 911 call from a Lawrenceville teenager, who described to officers an ongoing argument between the teen's mother and stepfather.

"The teenager told dispatchers that her stepfather armed himself with a gun during the argument with her mother," said Gwinnett Police Sgt. Collin Flynn, hours after the shooting.

Officers were then dispatched to a home on Foxcroft Road, not far from Hwy. 20/Buford Drive.

The first officer arrived on scene minutes after the 911 call was first received, and was walking up the home's driveway when he reportedly heard a gunshot fired in the backyard.

"The officer approached the fence leading into the backyard of the home, and saw a male suspect holding a gun while standing in the yard," Sgt. Flynn said. "The officer gave commands to the suspect to drop the gun. The suspect confronted the officer with the gun."

Flynn said the officer then fired his service weapon at the suspect, whose name has not been released. The suspect was apparently shot in the leg, causing him to drop his weapon.

Flynn said the officers rendered aid to the suspect on scene, before transporting the man to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

"There were no other injuries reported by the other occupants of the home or the officers on scene," he said. "Charges against the suspect are forthcoming as investigators continue to gather more information."

No names had been made public at the time of publication.
