A dedication ceremony was held on Thursday for the newly named Lawhorne Memorial Intersection in Forsyth County in honor of three car accident victims 26 years ago.

Kristi Jayne, 18; Tabbatha Rene’, 15; and Karolyn “Karri” Marie Lawhorne, 14 were the three victims in the May 17, 1998 accident at the Ga. 400 and Settingdown Circle intersection.

Forsyth County District 4 Commissioner Cindy Mills was at the event and reflected on the importance of the new intersection.

“We want to remember the girls and the lives that they had and hopefully be reflective of the light that they always gave to others and that we could be a light to others,” Mills said.

Mills said that this was one of the things on her bucket list before leaving office this December.

“I had always hoped that I would be able to get that done before I left office … I want the girls to be remembered,” Mills said.

The ceremony also featured comments from state officials and others in the community.

The dedication follows the passing of Resolution 1118 in the Georgia House of Representatives, which authorized the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) to put up and maintain appropriate signs dedicating the intersection.

The event was held at the site of the memorial sign where the new intersection will honor the victims whose lives were taken.
