A Gainesville man was arrested Sunday night after a domestic incident at a home in the 2600 block of Gillsville Highway in Gainesville.
Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman B.J. Williams said Brainsthon Rodriguez-Montanez, 25 was arrested after allegedly hitting a woman in the face, leaving a mark on her right cheek.
Deputies responded to the scene at around 7:30 p.m. and discovered the alleged incident occurred in the presence of a child.
Williams said Rodriguez-Montanez fled the scene and was not present when deputies first arrived.
While deputies talked to the victim, other deputies found Rodriguez-Montanez walking along Gillsville Highway. He was returned to the home for questioning.
“After the suspect was placed in custody and secured in a patrol vehicle, he attempted to escape while en route to the Hall County Jail, moving his handcuffed hands from behind his back to the front and then removing his seatbelt,” Williams said in an email.
Rodriguez-Montanez allegedly broke both the driver and passenger side door handles and a plastic partition between the passenger seat and the trunk of the vehicle.
Total damage to the vehicle was placed at $872.
Rodriguez-Montanez was charged with battery under the Family Violence Act, third-degree child cruelty, obstruction of an officer, interference with government property and criminal attempt to escape.
He remains in the Hall County Jail as of Thursday afternoon with his bond set at $9,800.
