The job market is seeing some of its best results ever in the City of Gainesville, according to the latest figures from the state's Department of Labor.

Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said Thursday that Gainesville recorded an unemployment rate of 2.0 percent in April. That is down five-tenths of a percent from the numbers out of the month of March.

The labor force increased in Gainesville by 229 and ended the month of April with 114,867. That number went up by 4,627 when compared to April of 2023.

Gainesville finished with 112, 537 employed residents and with 110,800 jobs for the month of April-both figures are at an all-time high.

A press release from Commissioner Thompson's office says Gainesville's initial unemployment claims increased by 38 (17%) in April.  When you compare April 2024 claims to April 2023, claims in Gainesville were up by only 9 (4%).

Thompson says, “Empowering the right people, in the right place, at the right time to make the right decisions is why Georgia continues to lead the nation in low unemployment and job opportunities for hardworking Georgians."
