A Gainesville man has been arraigned in court on charges of distributing fentanyl in cases that reportedly led to two overdoses, one of which was fatal.
A release Tuesday morning by U.S. Attorney Ryan Buchanan's office said Bobby Joe Holloman, age 50, was arraigned before U.S. Magistrate Judge J. Clay Fuller on Monday. He was indicted last Tuesday by a federal grand jury on charges of distributing fentanyl and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Cornelia Police Chief Jonathan Roberts said Holloman was arrested on Modoc Street in Cornelia Monday before his arraignment.
Buchanan's office said Holloman sold fentanyl that caused two people to overdose, and while one victim survived when paramedics gave them Narcan, the other died. Holloman was also reportedly found at the scene of another fatal overdose when a gun was found that belonged to him.
Holloman pleaded guilty in February of 2021 to possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and was imprisoned for six months before being released on probation.
"I am grateful for the hard work of our local, state, and federal partners who have worked tirelessly to help remove dangerous drugs like fentanyl from our community,” Gainesville Police Chief Jay Parrish said. “This case exemplifies how these partnerships work to make our city safer.”
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Keen is prosecuting Holloman's case.
