Four people, including a pregnant woman and a State Trooper, were hospitalized following a vehicle chase in Franklin County Wednesday morning.
Georgia State Patrol Troopers were called at about 11:45 a.m. to assist the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office in a pursuit of a white 2023 GMC Yukon that was traveling northbound on Interstate 85 near State Route 17.
A Trooper was able to successfully perform a PIT maneuver on the Yukon, causing it to rotate clockwise off the east shoulder of I-85, striking a guardrail end and overturning multiple times.
Troopers began rendering aid to the three occupants in the vehicle, including a 21 year old passenger who was six months pregnant. The woman was life flighted to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville where it was discovered the unborn child did not survive. The passenger remains in NGMC Gainesville with serious injuries.
The driver in the chase, Jovontae Marquelle Hill, 31, of La Mesa, California was arrested and transported to Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. He faces multiple charges including felony fleeing, feticide by vehicle, and reckless driving.
A second passenger, Emily Cooper, 37 of Vinton, Virginia was transported by ambulance to AnMed Health Medical Center for complaints of stomach pain, where she remails with non-life threatening injuries.
The Troop B Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team also responded to the scene due to the nature of the injuries in the incident. While conducting a crash investigation, one Trooper suffered a heart attack on scene. The Trooper was transported to AnMed Health Medical Center and was recovering in CICU as of last report.
