As they say, April showers bring May flowers. April and May also bring high school football.

Twenty-three high school football programs in the AccessWDUN coverage area will begin spring practice this week and next.

Dawson County, Commerce, Johnson, and Towns County are not holding spring practice this year; Union County and Lumpkin County began drills last week, and Cherokee Bluff, Flowery Branch, Jackson County, Jefferson and North Forsyth started yesterday.

Buford, East Forsyth, East Jackson, Gainesville, Habersham Central, Lanier Christian, North Hall, West Hall and White County get underway on Wednesday and Thursday, and the rest will follow suit next week.

High School programs get 10 days of spring training and are allowed to hold a spring game against an outside opponent. (See below for that schedule)

If programs decide not to hold a scrimmage against an outside opponent, they can hold two pre-season scrimmages in August, per Georgia High School Association rules.

Most teams take advantage of the rule and host spring games against other schools. Some are doing the traditional intrasquad scrimmages, and a handful do not have spring games.

Jefferson and Union County will not hold a spring game.
