Gainesville's unemployment rate saw a slight uptick in March.

Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson made the announcement Thursday morning. His office said Gainesville's unemployment rate in March was 2.5%, up two-tenths of a percent over February. The 2.5% rate matches the rate from one year prior.

“Georgia’s job market is red hot with opportunity,” said Commissioner Bruce Thompson. “This continuous growth is a strong indicator that our economic momentum is not slowing down any time soon. Once again, Georgia continues to shatter records in growing businesses statewide and creating jobs for hardworking Georgians.”

The labor force increased by 514 in Gainesville and ended the month with 114,608, an all-time high. That number was 4,652 more than in March 2023.

Gainesville finished the month with 111,776 employed residents, an all-time high. That number increased by 341 over-the-month and rose by 4,562 when compared to a year prior.

The area ended March with 109,700 jobs, which was up by 500 from February. It rose by 5,200 compared to March 2023.

Finally, initial unemployment claims were down by 34% in March (120). When you compare March 2024 claims to March 2023, claims were down by 10% (26).
