Hall County announced Wednesday it will name the fields at Allen Creek Soccer Complex in honor of the late Parks Director Mike Little.
A press release from the county said a celebration named “Mike Little Day” will be held on Saturday, May 11 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the soccer complex.
Little was first hired in 2001 at the soccer complex and took over as Director of Parks and Leisure nearly a decade later. He then went on to serve as Director of Parks and Community Services.
Little passed away suddenly in 2022 at the age of 58.
“Mike leaves behind an incredible legacy here in Hall County. If you visit our parks, you can still see the impact he left behind, from his dedicated efforts to revitalize Tadmore Park in East Hall to his vision for the scenic trails at Cherokee Bluffs in South Hall to his passion for soccer at Allen Creek,” Hall County Board of Commissioners Chairman Richard Higgins said.
The county will debut new signage, signifying “Mike Little Fields at Allen Creek Soccer Complex” at the entrance to the park.
The celebration will also include a dedication ceremony, the unveiling of the memorial plaque placed in Little’s honor adjacent to Field 1, as well as giveaways, bounce houses, food vendors and more.
“We know how important the sport of soccer was to Mike, and we couldn’t think of a better way to honor him than giving our local kids an enjoyable day against the backdrop of youth soccer games,” Brent Holloway, Hall County Parks and Community Services Director said.
The event is free and open to the public.
