Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr spoke Tuesday morning on WDUN's The Martha Zoller Show to develop recent developments in Georgia, and what his office is doing to combat crime.

Carr spoke about various crimes his office has tackled in recent months, starting with a human trafficking case that had assistance from the Hall County Sheriff's Office.

"We worked with Sheriff Gerald Couch and his folks to successfully prosecute and convict three men who were in the country illegally and who'd purchased an underage victim for sex," Carr said. "It was a Fulton and Cherokee County case that they assisted in."

Carr said they also had another major indictment in Augusta in recent months. In this specific case, 30 defendants were named with over 300 charges, including attempted murder, to drug and gun charges.

"It stemmed from a dispute between two gangs, and it kind of grew from there," Carr said. "We had an eight-year-old girl that was shot."

Carr said gang crimes reach out into their broader community.

"It's not just about the gangs themselves, the violence isn't contained to them," Carr said. "It's really anybody in the community can be impacted by it."

Carr also took aim at federal policies related to immigration.

"There's no doubt that we have a problem at the border right now, and as a result of the Biden administration's policies, we're seeing and increase in gangs, we're seeing an increase in human trafficking and an increase in fentanyl," Carr said.
