JEFFERSON, Ga. — Gabby Garnett scored with 13 minutes left in the match to break a 2-2 tie, and Jefferson held on for a 3-2 win over Chattahoochee in the second round of the Class 5A state playoffs on Tuesday at Memorial Stadium.

The Lady Dragons (17-0-1) never trailed but also could never shake the Lady Cougars (10-5-1). Maryn McCarty scored first for Jefferson, but Chattahoochee answered back to tie the game.

Samme Suppes scored late in the first half to give Jefferson a 2-1 halftime lead. It stayed that way until Chattahoochee tied the game on a PK with 15 minutes left. But Garnett answered for the Lady Dragons less than two minutes for the eventual game-winner.

Ava Rodriguez had a solid game, assisting on all three Jefferson goals.

With the victory, the Region 8-5A champion Lady Dragons advanced to the quarterfinals and will next face Region 3-5A champion Northgate. Jefferson will play host by virtue of winning the coin toss.

BUFORD 1,
MILTON 0

Kaitlyn White scored five minutes into the second half off an assist from Sabrie Vargas, and the Buford defense made it stand up for a nail-biting win in the second round of the Class 7A playoffs.

The No. 1-ranked Lady Wolves (18-0-1) were pushed throughout by the Lady Eagles (6-8-3), who had several chances in the second half to get the equalizer. But the Buford defense never wavered.

“Our defense was solid, and they did their job tonight,” Buford coach Megan Hill said. “And Alina (Pope) was solid in goal for us as well.”

Buford next will play host to Hillgrove on Monday in the quarterfinal round.

DAWSON COUNTY 6,
STEPHENS COUNTY 1

Hayden Hand scored four goals, and the Lady Tigers rolled into the Class 3A quarterfinals for the first time since 2016 with a dominating win on the road.

Dawson County (13-4) started fast and led 5-0 at halftime.

Harper Dussouy and Mckinley Adamson each added one goal for the Lady Tigers.

Dawson County will next face the Pike County-Harlem winner in the quarterfinals. If Harlem advances, the Lady Tigers will be at home again.
