BLAIRSVILLE, Ga. — Banks County held on for a 4-2 win over Union County on Friday.
The win clinched the Region 8-2A title for the Leopards (19-8, 11-3 Region 8-2A) on the final day of the regular season. It was part of a doubleheader but Banks County needed just one win to clinch the title.
Banks County led 4-0 early with single runs each in the first and second and then got a solo home run from Gaven Sears and a RBI double from Warren Leftwich.
That was more than enough for Judd Spear, who went five innings, scattering five hits and two walks and allowing just one run. He fanned seven. Andrew Humpries gave up one unearned run over the final two innings for the save.
Banks County will take a No. 1 seed into next week’s state playoffs.
