Gwinnett County Police have arrested a Lawrenceville man for allegedly selling vehicles with false Vehicle Identification Numbers.
The Gwinnett Police social media page shows that a victim called their headquarters on April 8 to report that they had purchased a Ford Transit van from a private seller on Marketplace, only to learn that there was an issue with the Vehicle Identification Number displayed on the vehicle
Detectives then discovered after examining the vehicle and false VIN code that the vehicle was stolen out of Ohio. With the victim's help, Gwinnett County investigators set up another purchase with the suspect, identified as Emir Mehic, 24, of Lawrenceville, as part of their undercover case.
Mehic was arrested without incident during that meeting and booked into the Gwinnett County Jail for Theft by Deception.
Investigators remind consumers that they should always consider obtaining a vehicle history report from an approved National Motor Vehicle Title Information System vendor. Visit vehiclehistory.bja.ojp.gov for more information
