Habersham County Parks and Recreation will host its Spring 2024 Swim Safely Day on Saturday, April 20.

The event will be held in partnership with Piedmont University’s Swim Team Program and Katy Ralston, natatorium director for Tallulah Falls School, along with her staff, to teach safe swimming curriculum backed by the American Red Cross.

The Swim Safely Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center in Clarkesville and will feature interactive workshops, demonstrations, and activities. The event’s last session will begin at 1 p.m.

“This initiative is aimed at promoting water safety awareness and empowering families in our community with life-saving skills,” Habersham County Parks and Recreation Director Brooke Whitmire said. “Through this event, we aim to prevent water-related accidents and foster a culture of safety among both children and parents.”

The 90 minute instructional sessions will begin every hour during the event’s time frame. Those who complete one of the sessions will be given a free lifejacket.

“This initiative is aimed at promoting water safety awareness and empowering families in our community with life-saving skills,” Whitmire said. “Through this event, we aim to prevent water-related accidents and foster a culture of safety among both children and parents.”

The Swim Safely Day is intended for everyone, from those who can not swim at all to those who swim regularly.

“This initiative is aimed at promoting water safety awareness and empowering families in our community with life-saving skills,” Whitmire emphasized. “Through this event, we aim to prevent water-related accidents and foster a culture of safety among both children and parents.”
