A storage shed and cargo trailer were destroyed Monday afternoon after a woods fire off Georgia 197 North near Batesville.

Habersham County Public Information Officer Rob Moore said a neighbor reported the fire at around 3:00 p.m. at 111 Wind Forest Court, Clarkesville.

“The call came out as a possible storage shed fire with involvement into the wood line with a lot of explosions heard inside the building and several cars nearby the homeowners were trying to move,” Habersham County Emergency Services Battalion Chief Michael Alexander said. “When I arrived, [there was] possibly about three-quarters of an acre involvement.”

The Lee Arrendale State Prison Fire Department Fire Team was called to assist but was canceled by the incident commander while on the way to the scene.

“We had an elderly gentleman that had fallen in the driveway,” Alexander said. “He was assisted by our EMS crews. He is uninjured.”

Alexander said the fire appeared to be accidental and possibly stemmed from the homeowner burning trash in a burn pit.

A golf cart was also destroyed in the Blaze.

Alexander said the fire was contained and extinguished. The fire was extinguished just before 4:30 p.m.
