An excavator fire is believed to be behind the damage to power lines in the 5900 block of Blackberry Lane just off McEver Road in Buford on Monday.

A post by the Hall County Sheriff's office says that even though the fire was located in an area away from major thoroughfares, several power substations were impacted on Monday afternoon and early evening.

There were reports of widespread power outages across the south end of the county, including traffic signals along Hog Mountain Road, Mundy Mill Road and parts of McEver Road were also affected.

Jackson EMC was called in by Hall officials to make power line repairs, while the fire was contained and doused by Hall County Fire Rescue crews into the early evening hours.

No injuries have been reported as of the time for this published report.
