Author and Historian Ben Wynne will present his latest work exploring the history and influence of a popular 1950’s song during the Northeast Georgia History Center's next Forum Lecture on April 9.
Published by LSU Press, Wynne’s A Hound Dog Tale: Big Mama, Elvis, and the Song That Changed Everything, reveals the story behind the popular song “Hound Dog” and the impact it had on rock music and American society. The book features stories of figures such as Willie Mae “Big Mama” Thornton and Elvis Presley.
A native of Florence, Mississippi, Wynne is a professor of history at the University of North Georgia. Specializing in antebellum American History, American popular music history and the history of the American South, Wynne has written several works on the South and Southern culture.
The event will begin at 7 p.m. and is free for members of the Northeast Georgia History Center. Non-members may enter for $5. While online registration is recommended, walk-ins will be welcome.
