One person was critically injured Friday morning after a two-vehicle crash on Georgia 17 at the intersection of Myrtle Street in Lavonia.

Georgia State Patrol troopers responded to the scene at around 11:43 a.m.

GSP officials said a 1998 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Jason Youngblood, 46 of Lavonia was driving north on GA 17 when a southbound 2011 Isuzu box truck driven by Jason Young, 52 of Lavonia attempted to turn left onto Myrtle Street.

The pickup truck hit the right back of the box truck. The pickup then traveled off the roadway, struck a ditch and overturned.

Officials said speed and impairment are suspected to be contributing factors for Youngblood.

Youngblood was transported by helicopter to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with critical injuries.

The driver and passenger of the box truck were not injured.

The crash remains under investigation and the Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.
