The Goodwill location in Oakwood held a grand reopening Thursday after renovations forced the store to close earlier this year.
The revitalization is part of Goodwill's goal to renovate several area stores, such as locations in Buford, Hamilton Mill and Piedmont, according to officials with the nonprofit.
The Oakwood store and donation center, located 3715 Mundy Mill Rd., was established in 2009. Residents of Oakwood and the surrounding areas have had a place to shop and donate their gently used clothes, furniture, books, and technology for some time now, however, those operations were put on hold in January 2024.
“The entire store has been renovated to a fresher look and feel,” Oakwood Store Manager Pluoa Her said. “The checkout experience has been upgraded to a counter with lighted register numbers. There is now a queue line with extensive new goods for our guests. All the fixtures in the store were replaced and upgraded. All the lighting is brighter and more inviting with new LED lights. And finally, the sales floor has been stripped, polished, and waxed to near-new levels. If you were to shop at our store before and after the renovations, you can see and feel the excitement and look of the new environment.”
Goodwill successfully renovated several other stores last year, including Cobb Parkway, Covington, Fayetteville, Hickory Flat, Northside, Jonesboro, Douglasville, Conyers and Powder Springs.
They plan to continue refreshing other locations in the coming months.
“We know the newly refreshed look will create an even more seamless shopping experience for our guests, and will generate more mission funding for the communities we serve,” Matthew Stegall, Senior Director of DGR Stores said.
Goodwill of North Georgia was recognized in FY 2023 as the number one Goodwill in the nation when it comes to people employed, helping more than 22,000 North Georgians get connected with jobs, officials said Tuesday.
