Suspect in Lawrenceville shooting arrested after hours-long standoff with SWAT team

A suspect in a domestic-related shooting Thursday in unincorporated Lawrenceville was arrested late that evening after an hours-long standoff with a SWAT team.

The Gwinnett County Police Department said Friday morning that Anthony Young, 37, of South Carolina, was spotted at about 10 p.m. Thursday returning to the scene of the shooting in the 1300 block of Ivey Pointe Drive.

Officers secured the residence and attempted to have Young exit the home.

"After multiple attempts, the SWAT team was activated, and negotiations continued," a press release from the agency said. "After several hours, the SWAT team successfully apprehended Young without incident."

Young was booked at the Gwinnett County Jail.

Gwinnett County Police told AccessWDUN Thursday that Young allegedly shot a woman in the home at about 2:30 p.m. The agency described the two as a couple. The woman was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. The agency had not released any updates on the woman's condition as of Friday morning.

Gwinnett County detectives have opened an investigation into a Thursday afternoon domestic-related incident that resulted in one woman being shot in unincorporated Lawrenceville. 

Gwinnett County Police officials said officers responded at around 2:30 p.m. to the 1300 block of Ivey Pointe Drive to reports of a person shot. 

Detectives have identified the shooter as Anthony Young, 37, of South Carolina. 

When officers arrived they found the female victim suffering from a gunshot wound to her rear shoulder. 

While officers secured the location, paramedics rendered aid to the woman. She was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. 

Preliminary details indicate the incident was an isolated domestic incident between the couple. 

Young’s whereabouts are currently unknown. He has been charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of certain crimes and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
