Minister and Retired US Army Chief Warrant Officer Two Devin Pandy has qualified to run for the vacant Gainesville Ward 4 city council seat.

The Secretary of States Office website shows Pandy qualified for the special election on Tuesday.

"I am honored to announce my candidacy for Gainesville City Council," Pandy said. "Gainesville is a truly remarkable city, offering a myriad of opportunities for residents, businesses, employees, students, youngsters, and tourists alike. I am enthusiastic about joining the council to contribute to the ongoing progress and initiatives while also addressing some of the unmet needs within our city's communities."

Pandy enlisted in the United States Army after he graduated high school. He served 21 decorated years and was deployed to Panama, Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Ward 4 seat was left vacant after Former City Councilman George Wangemann announced at a Dec. 19, 2023, City Council meeting that he would be resigning from the seat. Wangemann later passed away following a battle with bladder cancer.

Pandy advocates for disabled veterans, community and law enforcement relations and mental health awareness. His community activities include Minister of Community Outreach at the Community Church of Atlanta – Gainesville Campus, Chaplain of the American Legion, Vice President and Co-Founder of North Georgia Black Business Alliance, Vice President of The Gentlemen of Gainesville-Hall County (a non-profit dedicated to the mentorship of underprivileged youth), Board Member, Humane Society of Northeast Georgia, Board Member, Habitat for Humanity of Hall County and Volunteer, Sunshine Seniors (non-profit dedicated to feeding seniors, children, and families)

Pandy previously ran unsuccessfully for Mayor of Gainesville and for the 9th Congressional District.

Abigail Guzman previously announced she is running for the Ward 4 seat.
