The Gainesville City School System announced Monday night that Roberto Rivera was selected as the Principal of Gainesville High School.

Gainesville school officials said the month-long search included interviews with the school's governance council, student panel and district leadership.

"It was very overwhelming at the end of that process, how everybody wanted Roberto to be our next principal and he's going to do a fantastic job, if you know anything about him and what he's done with our wrestling program and our students, his expectations are high," said Superintendent Dr. Jeremy Williams.

Rivera will transition into the role on July 1. Rivera currently serves as the Freshman Administrator leading the 9th Grade Hall.

Gainesville school officials said he has been an administrator at GHS since 2019. Rivera also worked as the varsity wrestling coach.

"Mr. Rivera has been an integral piece of Gainesville High School for the last five years, and we are excited to see him lead the school using his passion for serving kids and experience with all of our families,” Williams continued. “Our search became clear when we witnessed the overwhelming support from the school governance council, staff, and students. He will take the mantle from Mr. Green and continue to build on our successes as a school and community."

In his early education career, Rivera served as a Spanish teacher for 17 years.

“Mr. Rivera will continue the incredible school culture that we are experiencing now at Gainesville High,” current Gainesville High School Principal Jamie Green said. “He will bring the structure needed for a school of our size while also maintaining relationships with students and staff that make everyone feel at home.”
