Tragic end in search for missing Habersham County man

The search for a missing Habersham County man ended Saturday Morning with tragic results. 

Habersham County Public Information Officer Rob Moore said the body of Tony Quinnion Mooney, 26 was found in rural Stephens County 

Mooney had been missing since the morning of Feb. 21. Foul play is not suspected in his death. 

The cause of death has not been determined and is under investigation by the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office and Stephens County Coroner’s Office.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Mooney’s family,” Habersham County Sheriff’s Office Investigator George Cason said.

Crews utilized search dogs and a drone in their attempt to locate Mooney.

“We are grateful for the assistance of personnel and resources from Stephens County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit, Stephens County Search and Rescue, and Georgia Department of Natural Resources,” Cason said.

An autopsy will be conducted at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation State Crime Lab in Decatur. 

Additional information on the case will be released by Stephens County authorities.
