The Chestatee girls' basketball team played with a chip on their shoulder all season.
And it's not for the reason you would think. Most teams that play with a chip on their shoulder lost a big game last season, like a region championship or a state title.
Well, the Lady War Eagles won the Region 8-4A championship last season, so why the chip?
"I think that there were some people in the community that kind of put an asterisk on what we did last year," Shirley said. "There were several teams that had some key contributors get hurt towards the end of the season. And I think some people felt like last year's run was not that we were the best team, but that we were the healthiest team."
That was the only motivation the Lady War Eagles needed, and it worked.
The Lady War Eagles knocked off North Oconee, the South No. 1 seed, to capture the Region 8-4A title, their second straight, and secure a No. 1 seed in this week's Class 4A state tournament.
Chestatee will host Woodland-Stockbridge on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the first round of the Class 4A tournament. Live coverage can be heard on 94.5 FM The Lake. To watch the full video feature, press play above.
