Two people were arrested early Thursday morning after a traffic stop in South Hall County led to the seizure of methamphetamine and additional drug paraphernalia.

According to a press release from the Hall County Sheriff's Office, a deputy made the stop just after midnight on I-985 northbound near the Spout Springs Road exit after he noticed the vehicle had a malfunctioning taillight. The vehicle was also allegedly failing to maintain its lane of travel.

The deputy searched the vehicle and the two male passengers after he smelled marijuana in the vehicle. A female deputy arrived shortly after to search the female driver.

The deputy found a bag containing about 30 grams of methamphetamine during a search of one of the passengers, Ira Gregory Earls, 47, of Flowery Branch. That search also led to the discovery of scales and a mirror belonging to Earls. Earls also resisted arrest by grabbing the bag of narcotics and pulling away from the deputy.

The driver of the vehicle, Mindy Elizabeth Chattin, 52, of Dahlonega, was found in possession of less than an ounce of marijuana as well as a glass smoking device with white residue consistent with meth usage.

Earls was charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, trafficking in methamphetamine, possession of drug-related objects and obstruction-resisting arrest. Chattin was charged with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and possession of drug-related objects. She received traffic citations for taillight violation, failure to maintain lane and driving without a license.

The third occupant of the vehicle was not charged.
