A Jefferson man is behind bars after Gainesville police said he rammed two patrol cars during an incident Monday night.

Jessica Van with the Gainesville Police Department said officers were called to the intersection of Browns Bridge Road and Pearl Nix Parkway around 9:00 p.m. to a report of a white Dodge Charger sitting in the middle of the roadway.

"The callers were concerned for the well-being of the driver," Van said.

That driver was identified as James Edward Harrison, age 39. When officers attempted to assist Harrison, he reportedly refused commands, eventually putting the vehicle into gear and ramming two patrol cars.

Officers then tased Harrison, removed him from the vehicle and arrested him.

Harrison was taken to a nearby hospital before ultimately being booked into the Hall County Jail. He remained there as of Tuesday afternoon on more than $17,000 bond facing multiple counts of aggravated assault on an officer as well as possession of methamphetamine.

No officer injuries were reported in the incident.
