BLAIRSVILLE, Ga. — Union County could not hold onto a halftime lead Saturday night, falling 76-65 to North Cobb Christian in a battle for first place in Region 7-2A.
The Class 2A second-rated Union County boys (PSR ratings by the GHSA) led 21-13 early in the second quarter and took a 35-30 lead into the break. But NCC, ranked fifth in the PSR in Class 2A, opened the third quarter with a 9-0 run and never trailed again.
The Panthers (7-2, 3-1 Region 7-2A) pulled back within 61-60 midway through the fourth quarter but the Eagles (7-1, 4-0 Region 7-2A) closed out the game with a 15-5 run to hand Union County its first home loss of the season.
They fell into a second-place tie with Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe (8-1, 3-1 Region 7-2A) in the standings.
Union County finished with four players in double figures, led by Houston Henry’s 21 points. Hayden Hughes added 17, Holden Payne 11, and Vince Marevka had 10 points for the Panthers.
