In a recent press release, Cherokee Bluff High School announced that Levi Selman, a senior and drummer for the school's band program, has been awarded a spot in the Georgia All-State Jazz Band on Drum Set.
The honor places Levi among the top young jazz musicians in the state and as one of only two drummers selected statewide.
Over 5,000 students auditioned for various All-State ensembles and this recognition is similar to winning an individual state championship in music performance.
Selman will now perform with the All-State Jazz Band at the Georgia Music Educators Association In-Service Conference in Athens, GA, from January 30 to February 1, 2025.
He has applied to several universities, including the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, where he hopes to continue his journey of musical excellence
“We could not be prouder of Levi,” said Craig Cantrell, Director of Bands at Cherokee Bluff High School. “His hard work and determination have set a shining example for his peers, and his future in music is limitless. This honor is also a reminder of how essential arts programs are in fostering talent and offering students transformative experiences.”
