Buford, Cherokee Bluff, Jefferson and North Hall all advanced to the quarterfinals in their respective classifications, setting up some marquee matchups in the second round.
Cherokee Bluff travels back to the place of its only loss of the season when they battle Jefferson for a spot in the Class 3A semifinals. North Hall faces a hot LaGrange team at home, and Buford and North Gwinnett renew the rivalry at Tom Riden Stadium.
This week will surely provide plenty of playoff fireworks, and all of us will play out on the Jacobs Media airwaves.
To follow scores and more this week, follow our Friday Game Night X for scores, stories and highlights.
North Gwinnett at Buford—It's been 25 years since the two northern Gwinnett County rivals met on the football field. The last time was a 26-7 win for the Wolves on Sept. 10, 1999. That year ended a 12-game streak in the 28-year history of the rivalry. So, there's no better way to renew the rivalry than Friday night with a trip to the Class 6A semifinals on the line. Can North Gwinnett get their first win over the Wolves since 1998, or will it be business as usual for Buford? The game can be heard live on WDUN AM 550 (Click to listen live).
Cherokee Bluff at Jefferson — The mini Region 8-3A playoffs continue this week at Memorial Stadium in Jefferson. Yes, Jefferson has already claimed the 2024 Region 8-3A title, but both teams have beaten a Region 8-3A member to get to this point. Jefferson handed the Bears their only loss this season on Oct. 25 at Memorial Stadium, and Bluff would love nothing more than to avenge that regular season loss. Both teams are on a mission for a spot in the Class 3A semifinals next week. Will this be a repeat of the first meeting, or will it be a dogfight? The game can be heard live on FM 102.9 WDUN (Click to listen live).
LaGrange at North Hall—The Brickyard Magic has carried North Hall this far. Last week, the Trojans rallied past Upson-Lee to clinch a berth in the Class 3A quarterfinals. But they face a red-hot LaGrange team that has beaten two top-ranked teams this far. So far, North Hall has found a way to advance, and the same can be said about LaGrange. This one will be interesting. The game can be heard live on FM 94.5 The Lake (Click to listen live).
