The Sawnee Electric Membership Foundation will distribute over $31,000 in grants to local charities and Georgia-certified teachers within Sawnee EMC’s service area.

The funds are provided through Sawnee EMC’s Operation Round Up program and the Membership Foundation.

Operation Round Up allows members to round up their monthly electric bill to the nearest dollar to be directed to the foundation. All funds are then distributed throughout the community through grants managed by the Foundation’s volunteer Board of Trustees. Nearly 14,500 members participate annually, contributing an average of $6 each.

Additionally, the Foundation Board approved $21,549.40 for charitable organizations and $9,555.35 for the Bright Ideas Program,  which supports educational programs led by Georgia-certified teachers.
