GRAY, Ga. — Jones County took advantage of three East Forsyth turnovers to run away with a 51-21 win over the Broncos in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs on Friday night.
An interception and a fumble on consecutive possessions in the first quarter led to 10 points as the Greyhounds used that build a 17-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game.
East Forsyth closed the gap to 17-7 early in the second on a 9-yard touchdown run from Gus Martin But Jones County got a pair of long touchdown passes to eventually take a 31-7 advantage into halftime.
The Broncos stormed out of the break, getting touchdown runs from Miguel Villeda (1-yard) and Martin’s second TD (23-yards) to pull within 31-21 late in the third quarter.
But the Greyhounds put the game out of reach with 20 fourth quarter points, including a punt return for touchdown and turning another Broncos fumble into a TD pass.
The Broncos, who have made back-to-back playoff appearances in their first four years as a program, are still looking for their first-ever postseason win.
