COMMERCE, Ga. – Commerce found themselves in a battle to open the Class A Division I playoffs Friday night as they edged out Bremen, 35-28.
Jacari Huff seemed to get the momentum on the home team's side early by returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown, but Bremen grinded out a drive to tie things up three minutes later. The Tigers answered immediately as Jaiden Daniels went untouched for 83 yards to give Commerce the 14-7 lead with 8:11 to go in the first quarter.
Bremen came right back and scored two minutes later to tie the game up at 14-14 before the Tigers got a touchdown from Tysean Wiggins with 10 seconds left in the first quarter. The score would remain at 21-14 at halftime before Bremen tied it up early in the third on a 9-yard rushing score.
Commerce did not waver, scoring three minutes later on a Huff 22-yard rushing score to retake the lead before doubling the lead on a Daniels 2-yard rushing score. The Tigers seemed to be driving for another score but coughed up the ball to Bremen, leading to another score to bring the game to 35-28.
Bremen had a chance, getting down to the Tiger 16-yard line before turning the ball over on downs with freshman Zymir Huff breaking up the fourth down pass, sealing the win for the Tigers.
Commerce will travel to Toombs County next week in the second round of the playoffs.
