CANTON, Ga. – Gainesville saw its season come to an abrupt end Friday night as they fell to Sequoyah, 38-28.
The Chiefs scored the first 17 points of the night before the Red Elephants got on the board with 10:09 to play in the first half as Philip Williams reeled in a 9-yard reception to cut into the lead. Sequoyah added another touchdown before halftime before Big Red started to stage a comeback.
Shane King got things going in the opening minute of the third quarter with a 28-yard touchdown catch before Kharim Hughley punched in a 6-yard run to cut the lead to 24-21. The Chiefs missed a field goal at the 8:00 mark of the fourth quarter to keep the score there until Jeremiah Ware took the top off the defense with a 48-yard catch for Big Red's first lead of the game at 28-24. The Chiefs, however, got the last laugh, scoring with 2:55 to go and then getting an interception late to seal the win.
Hughley finished 18-for-30 for 343 yards apssing with his three touchdowns, while Ware had five catches for 137 yards.
