POWDER SPRINGS, Ga. — Gainesville opened its season with a 58-44 win over Dutchtown on Saturday in the Elite 8 Showcase at McEachern High School.
The Red Elephants led 29-19 at halftime and pushed their lead to as many as 25 points in the second half.
KJ White paced Gainesville with 15 points, 6 assists, and 5 steals. Jaxson Jones added 11 points and 5 rebounds, while Charlie Gersmehl added 8 points and 7 rebounds. Caden Jackson finished with 7 points and Quintin Nelson pulled down 6 rebounds for Big Red.
Gainesville next will play on Nov. 23 against Wheeler, a semifinalist in Class 7A last season, in the Hawks-Naismith Tip Off Classic at Holy Innocents.

The Falcons moved to 2-0 on the young season with a big win in the Roger Slaton Memorial at Dawson County.
Landon Mealor led Branch with 19 points. Brayden Lee added 15 points and Joell Bennett 10 points for the Falcons.

The Spartans opened their season with a victory on Saturday.
Xaiver Felix led West Hall with 22 points. Troy Smith added 17 points for the Spartans.
West Hall (1-0) next will travel to East Forsyth on Tuesday.
