CLEVELAND, Ga. – Chestatee kept their playoff hopes alive with a 23-21 nail-biting win over White County Friday night.
The Warriors took the early lead late in the first quarter as Tripp Nix scampered in from 24 yards out to lead, 7-0. After Nix threw an interception early in the second quarter, Isaiah Glez hit a 31-yard field goal midway through the period. The War Eagles continued to grind, getting an Izayah Ledford rushing score with under a minute to go in the half to take a 10-7 lead into intermission.
The War Eagles scored with 18 seconds left in the third quarter to further extend the lead as Colton Steele plunged in from a yard out. White County started a comeback with a 5-yard pass from Nix to Bryson Phillyyaw to cut the lead to two, but Ben Plemons answered right back 14 seconds later with an 80-yard sprint to extend the lead back out to 23-14. Nix found a touchdown with 83 seconds left, but Chestatee got the onside kick and held on to win.
White County will finish the season next week with a matchup against Johnson, while Chestatee will play host to GAC, looking to clinch a playoff spot.
