Last week was billed as the season's biggest week, and it didn't disappoint.
Region 6-3A is in chaos mode after Week 9. North Hall scored a late touchdown to stop Greater Atlanta's reign. Chestatee shocked Pickens with a massive win, and Dawson County upset White County. Yes, both Dawson County and Chestatee are in the playoff hunt and will play each other in Sardis to strengthen their playoff chances.
In Region 8-4A, Flowery Branch took down Madison County to stay alive in the playoff race, and East Forsyth routed Walnut Grove to keep its region title hopes alive.
Cherokee Bluff, Jefferson, and Oconee County all rolled to remain tied at the top of the Region 8-3A standings.
This week may not be as strong but there are several key region games on the schedule, including three on the Jacobs Media airwaves and streaming live on AccessWDUN.com.
To follow scores and more this week, follow our Friday Game Night X for scores, stories and highlights.
Walnut Grove at Flowery Branch—After a 1-5 start to the season, the Falcons have a shot at winning three of four games to finish the season. If they do, a playoff spot is almost guaranteed. However, it starts with beating Walnut Grove at home on Friday. The Falcons outlasted Madison County last week to get their first region win. Walnut Grove lost big to East Forsyth. The Falcons only fell by four points to the Broncos in September. Flowery Branch scored the most points in a game last week and proved a 1-5 team still has a fight. That fight should continue this week at Falcons Field. The game can be heard live on WDUN AM 550 (Click to listen live).
North Hall at Lumpkin County— Lumpkin County has been waiting on this one all season, and so has North Hall. It'll be an all-out war when these two rivals collide in the Gold City on Gold Rush weekend. Both teams have the offensive firepower to make this game a shootout. Then again, both also have playmakers on defense, which could make this a defensive slug-fest. Whatever it turns out to be, North Hall can take a stronghold on the top spot in the region standings with a win. However, the Indians can make it interesting if they win, creating a three-way tie atop the Region 6-3A standings. The game can be heard live on FM 102.9 WDUN (Click to listen live).
Gainesville at Chattahoochee—Big Red goes back on the road this week and should be happy with the results. The Cougars continue their road through the top three teams in the region but haven't been close in any of those games, losing to Milton 47-0 and Roswell 63-7. It's Gainesville's final tuneup for Region 7-5A co-leader Roswell next week, but don't expect the Red Elephants to be looking ahead this week. The game can be heard live on FM 94.5 The Lake (Click to listen live).
