Hall County Sheriff Gerald Couch spoke on WDUN’s The Martha Zoller Show to discuss his run for re-election.
Couch shared that as he seeks re-election, he has continued to collaborate with the Hall County School System to bring School Resource Officers to all Elementary schools in the district.
“I looked at what we could do right now, and so it occurred to me that we could actually facilitate covering more of the elementary schools than we do right now,” Couch said. “I have three roving deputies that travel all over the county…but that's just not enough, in my opinion. So I was going to treat five additional deputy sheriffs that will rotate more.”
Couch said an agreement between the Hall County Commission and Hall County Schools to fund the initiative is underway, with details to be announced Thursday.
Couch secured the primary election in May against Republican Jim Hammock with over 73% of the vote. He will now face Lula Democrat Jerry Ramos in the general election.
According to Ramos’s campaign website, he aims to represent moderate policies. AccessWDUN attempted to contact Ramos but did not receive a response.
“As a no-nonsense public safety and passionate leader, my priority is to transcend political boundaries to provide you and future generations with a more balanced Hall County Sheriff's Office and County Jail ecosystem, as well as enhance accountability and transparency,” Ramos' webside said. “...I will stand by the right of law-abiding citizens, and ensure that no infringement occurs at the local, state, or federal levels.”
