MONROE, Ga. – Jefferson took over in the second half as they cruised past Monroe Area in Region 8-3A action Friday night, 38-14.
Trailing 7-0 to start the second quarter, Gavin Markey tied the game up on the first play of the quarter on a 6-yard rush. After recovering a Hurricane fumble, Taylor McCall hit a 26-yard field goal to give the Dragons their first lead of the game, 10-7.
Markey found Dalton Dye on Jefferson's next possession to take a 17-7 lead into halftime after their 4-yard touchdown. Markey would then find RJ Hinton with 8:02 to go in the third for a 22-yard touchdown. The Dragon defense held strong after allowing Monroe to score on the ensuing drive, holding on a big fourth down midway through the fourth quarter. That set up Dallas Russell to rush in from 12 yards out before Markey finished the night with another rushing score after breaking three tackles on the play.
Now 2-0 in region play, Jefferson will host East Hall next week.
