MT. AIRY, Ga. – Habersham Central found themselves leading by a touchdown at intermission, but 28 straight points were scored by Clarke Central as the Gladiators won Friday night's region matchup, 42-28.
After the Glads got on the board first at the 7:24 mark, the Raiders answered with a 51-yard run from quarterback Paris Wilbanks to tie the game up. Zeke Whittington gave Habersham their first lead of the game at the 10:24 mark of the second quarter on a 6-yard pass from Wilbanks.
The end of the second quarter became frantic as Clarke Central scored with 90 seconds left in the period before the Raiders answered with a quick drive down that saw Whittington catch his second touchdown of the night, this time from eight yards away to take a 21-14 lead into halftime.
Clark Central scored four straight touchdowns in the second half to take a 42-21 before Whittington caught touchdown No. 3 on the night, a 17-yard catch with three minutes to go.
Whittington finished with nine catches for 130 yards and three scores.
Habersham Central will be at Alcovy next week.
