Six key Region 8-6A contests and a monster girls showdown between two of the state's best teams will highlight a light schedule on Saturday.
For the boys in 8-6A, Gainesville (7-13, 5-2 Region 8-6A) moved them into second place with a huge win over Habersham Central (16-5, 5-3 Region 8-6A) on Friday. The loss dropped the Raiders into third place. The Red Elephants take on last place Apalachee (4-17, 0-8 Region 8-6A) at home with a chance to pull a full game ahead of Habersham, who is off on Saturday.
Jackson County (9-11, 3-4 Region 8-6A) is locked in a three-way battle with North Forsyth and Lanier. The Panthers travel to Sugar Hill to take on the Longhorns (8-12, 3-4 Region 8-6A) on Saturday. North Forsyth (6-14, 3-4 Region 8-6A) travels to No. 2 Shiloh (17-4, 7-1 Region 8-6A).
For the girls in 8-6A, No. 2-ranked North Forsyth (21-0, 8-0 Region 8-6A) can clinch no worse than second-place finish with a win over Shiloh (6-15, 3-5 Region 8-6A).
There is one Region 8-4A crossover matchup on Saturday with East Hall playong host to Seckinger.
But the most intriguing matchup of the day will have the Class 7A No. 3 Buford girls (18-2) playing host to Class 3A No. 2 Wesleyan (16-2). In the MaxPreps rankings, Wesleyan is second in all classifications while the Lady Wolves are sixth. Tip-off for the showdown is 2 p.m. at The Buford Arena.
