With just a couple of weeks left before we get NASCAR back on track, our Hard Left Turn crew decided it was time for a Daytona themed Retro Replay - this time looking back some 40 years.
Going into the 1984 Daytona 500, all eyes were on defending winner Cale Yarborough, who had sat on the pole with a record lap in excess of 200 MPH, and had backed up that run with a win in his Thursday qualifying race.
But there were other questions about what would happen. Turn 4, dubbed "Calamity Corner" by local media, had been a scary place during Speedweeks, with a trio of spectacular crashes that included a scary end-over-end crash by Ricky Rudd the week before in the Busch Clash.
In all, it worked out to be a classic Daytona 500 - but why take our word for it? Give it a watch here before listening to the show!
