With the 2024 high school baseball’s first pitch set to sail in less than a month, a handful of area teams are ranked in the Coaches Box top-10 preseason polls.
The 2024 high school baseball season will officially begin on February 12.
In Class A Division 2, Towns County is ranked No. 7. The Indians finished the 2023 season with a 22-13 record, finished second win Region 8A, and made the state quarterfinals.
In Class 3A, although not a team in the AccessWDUN coverage area, Region 7-3A champions Pickens finished last season with a 29-7 record and lost in the second round in three games.
Class 4A houses the most ranked area teams. Region 8-4A runner-up Cherokee Bluff, who finished 28-5 last season and made the second round, is ranked the highest at No. 2. East Forsyth, who finished third in Region 8-4A with a 22-14 record and made the Class 4A quarterfinals last season is 10th.
Region 8-4A has four teams in the top 10, including top-ranked and defending state champion North Oconee and No. 9 Walnut Grove.
In Class 5A, Winder-Barrow is the only ranked team out of Region 8-5A, which is home to area teams Flowery Branch and Jefferson. The Bulldoggs finished last season 24-12 and lost in three games in the quarterfinals. They are No. 6
In Class 7A, Buford, who won Region 8-7A last season, finishing 19-15 and lost in the second round, is ranked fourth in the state’s largest classification.
