The Forsyth County Public Library and OneForsyth are inviting families in the area to join them for the second annual Forsyth County Lunar New Year Celebration on February 10.
The “Year of the Dragon” celebration will be from 12:30 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Sharon Forks Library, located at 2802 Old Atlanta Road in Cumming.
The event will include several cultural performances in the library’s meeting room from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m., snack bags filled with Chinese festival food, traditional red envelopes (while supplies lasts), Chinese calligraphy and paper cutting activities, and cultural exhibits.
“ It is part of our mission to present cultural programs that reflect the diversity of our growing community,” FCPL programming Manager Kim Ottesen shared in a statement. “It's a win-win for the library when we can educate and inform our community in such a fun, entertaining way.”
The 2023 Forsyth County Lunar New Year Celebration saw a record crowd of 1067 people.
“A joint event with OneForsyth is a natural fit for FCPL,” Library Director Anna Lyle said. “The Chamber’s OneForsyth initiative celebrates Forsyth’s many cultures and the Library has a long history of providing educational and cultural programming. This will be a memorable Lunar New Year celebration for the entire Forsyth County community.”
“The Forsyth Chamber’s OneForsyth initiative was formed to position and foster Forsyth County as an inclusive, thriving community for all,” Pearl Cai, Forsyth Chamber Board Member, and a representative of the OneForsyth Council shared. “The initiative celebrates differences and champions inclusive prosperity for all in Forsyth County. We are excited to continue our partnership with the Forsyth County Public Library to celebrate Lunar New Year as a community.”
