Infant dies, mother seriously injured after wreck in Athens-Clarke County

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department is investigating a Jan. 11 car crash that claimed the life of a newborn and seriously injured the mother. 

Police officials said the wreck occurred on Daniesville Road near Mission Drive after the driver of a southbound delivery vehicle drove into the path of a northbound 1996 Ford Ranger. 

The pregnant woman was the passenger of the Ford and was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The baby was delivered, and both the mother and infant were placed in intensive care. 

Officials said during a follow-up investigation they learned the infant passed away on Jan 13. 

The driver of the Ford was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. Officials said the delivery driver had minor injuries
