A four-way stop has been planned for the Level Grove Road and J Warren Road intersection outside Cornelia.
The intersection in question was included in a recent Safety Action Plan grant that was awarded by the Georgia Department of Transportation, which will lead to the four-way stop change, according to Habersham County officials.
Currently, the intersection allows free-flowing traffic on Level Grove Road and requires those crossing from J Warren Road to stop.
Between Oct. 1, 2019, and Sept. 30, 2023, 14 people were injured in collisions at the intersection, according to data from the state reporting system. 23 of the 27 wrecks were angle collisions, one was head-on and two were rear-end. One crash was with a fixed object.
Reviews and field observations by engineers resulted in the recommendation to install rumble strips ahead of the four-way stop. On Level Grove Road, there will also be flashing red stop signs in each direction.
Due to lead times for materials, completion of the intersection will likely be sometime after March 1, according to officials.
