Gas prices are seeing modest declines at the pumps throughout Georgia.
AAA of Georgia shows that the statewide average price for unleaded regular gasoline has dipped to $2.97 per gallon as of today (Monday). That's 2 cents below last week's average price and 9 cents lower than one month ago, but 15 cents more than the price from one year ago.
Montrae Waiters of AAA says less demand at the pump is part of the reason for prices hovering around the $3 mark. "Now that the holiday season is in our rearview mirrow, fewer Georgians are filling up at the pump. Low demand appears to be the driving force lowering prices." She adds, "Drivers can antidipate pump prices to ebb and flow in January."
Hall County commuters will see an even lower average price of $2.92 per gallon, with the lowest average price in Northeast Georgia in Hart County at $2.84 per gallon, and in Habersham and Stephens Counties at about $2.90 per gallon.
